"Cruel Summer" by Superchunk

 

Chapel Hill, North Carolina indie group Superchunk cover "Cruel Summer," Bananarama's contribution to the soundtrack of 1984 movie "The Karate Kid."

I can't verify this in any way, but I'm pretty sure Superchunk got their name from the transition of milk into cottage cheese the second that you walk out of the grocery store into the oppressive, oppressive August heat.

It's a cruel.  Cruel summer.  Leaving me here with a freshly purchased gallon of super chunky milk.

"Moves Like Jagger" by Bananarama

 

Considering how much I loathe.... like, with every fiber of my being.... anything Maroon 5 have ever vomited onto the music scene, I'm surprised that this Bananarama offering isn't entirely unpleasant.

Then again, you can only pour so much perfume onto a dog turd.

I think it's great considering the source material.  They did what they could, you know?

"Stuck In The Middle With You" by Susanna Hoffs

 

This is a fairly straightforward cover of the Stealers Wheel classic.

I believe the video for the song features Susanna chopping off the ear of Bananarama's Siobhan Fahey, who is dressed up in a police uniform, before dousing her with gasoline and setting her ablaze.
