"Sunflower" by Flight Paths

On this date 163 years ago, Kansas became the 34th state to enter the union, prompting Betsy Ross to sigh and start rearranging stars on the flag to make room for one more.

I could have gone with a Kansas cover, but.....nah.

Kansas is known as "The Sunflower State,"

So, here's Denver, Colorado area sibling band Flight Paths with their cover of 2018 Spider-verse tune "Sunflower" from Grapevine, Texas artist Post Malone.

"Only Wanna Be With You" by Post Malone

Grapevine, Texas rapper Post Malone was one of a handful of artists who contributed a song for a compilation album celebrating the 25th anniversary of Pokemon.

Malone's entry was a cover of Columbia, South Carolina soft rockers Hootie and The Blowfish's 1995 international hit "Only Wanna Be With You."

The lyrics are the same, except for a single line.

In the original, Hootie... or maybe one of the blowfish.... sang "I'm such a baby, 'cause the dolphins make me cry."

Post Malone changes it to "the Cowboys make me cry."

Perhaps it's a nod to the Dallas football team.

Or, maybe not.  I've also seen "Brokeback Mountain."

"Circles" by Of Monsters and Men

A cover that I consider far superior to the original.

Of Monsters and Men are one of Iceland's best exports, next to frozen fish fillets and metric tons of volcanic ash.
Their version of Post Malone's "Circles" starts as a quiet piano driven whisper, adding instruments and tempo as they go along, building to a rollicking (you know, as much as Of Monsters and Men can rollick) crescendo.
Sort of like a pot of macaroni that's slowly simmering on the stove, and within minutes boils over onto the range top that's impossible to clean, no matter what combination of slightly abrasive cleaners you toss on there.
